General Walk Information
With more than 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s, Alzheimer’s Disease is an epidemic; is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States, and is the only cause of death in the top 10 in America that cannot be prevented, cured or slowed. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s Disease:
Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. This inspiring event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to join the fight against the disease!
When you participate in Walk, your fundraising dollars fuel our mission, and your participation in the event helps to change the level of Alzheimer’s awareness in our community. The Alzheimer’s Association provides free, easy-to-use tools and staff support to help participants reach their fundraising goal. While there is no fee to register, we encourage participants to fundraise in order to contribute to the cause and raise awareness.
In Westchester County, our 2017 Walk will take place on September 24th (the day after Rosh Hashanah) and will be held at SUNY Purchase. Registration starts at 9 AM. The volunteer chair of our Walk is Bet Torah congregant, Neil Klar, who has been a Board Member of the Hudson Valley Chapter for many years.
Where do the funds go?
All funds raised through Walk to End Alzheimer's further the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association. The Alzheimer's Association is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. All donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
Do I have to register in order to Walk?
Yes, we want to know you’re walking with us and need every walker to sign a standard waiver through their official registration. There is no registration fee for Walk. However, we ask every walker to make a personal donation and commit to raising funds in the fight against Alzheimer’s.
Do I need to register my children for Walk?
Yes, children should register. Parents/guardians can register children online or complete an offline registration form and sign the waiver on behalf of the child.
Does every walker get a T-shirt?
Every registered participant will receive a T-shirt after achieving the fundraising minimum of $100. Unless otherwise communicated, T-shirts will be available for pick up on Walk day.
