Boomers & Beyond Museum Of The Moving Image & Louis Armstrong House

We are off to Queens for a day of entertainment greats. We start the day with a visit to the Museum Of The Moving Image. This is the country's only museum dedicated to the art, history, technique, and technology of the moving image in all its forms. The Museum is a one-of-a-kind destination for audiences of all ages and interests, from connoisseurs of classic cinema to children and families to avid gamers. Embracing a wide range of subjects, from nineteenth century optical toys to the latest in digital art, the Museum explores every phase of the production, promotion, and exhibition of moving images. It offers an engaging, highly interactive core exhibition, and programs of contemporary and classic films from around the world. Lunch is at Ben’s Best Kosher Deli (Not connected with any other “Ben’s”). Named one of the best Jewish Deli’s in America, Ben’s Best was featured in the movie, “The Comedian” with Robert De Niro and Danny DeVito (They’re Jewish? Who knew?). Recently it appeared on the Travel Channel’s Food Paradise show in an episode entitled, “The Meatier The Better”. After lunch we will visit the Louis Armstrong House and Museum. Louis Armstrong was one of the most recognizable entertainers in the world when he chose the working-class neighborhood of Corona, Queens to be his home in 1943. “And you take this neighborhood we live in,” Louis said in 1964. “We’re right out here with the rest of the colored folk and the Puerto Ricans and Italians and the Hebrew cats. We don’t need to move out in the suburbs to some big mansion with lots of servants and yardmen and things.” So, “Hebrew cats”, You will have the chance to learn a lot more about one of the 20th century’s greatest musicians. We will be departing Bet Torah at 8:30AM, returning at 6:00PM
